An Urban

Rain & Angelica, by Jo Malone

"Representing an early dawn London parks filled with dew. It capture accords of rain, fresh lime, angelica and vetiver."

A unisex aquatic fragrance visualizing morning rain in a London park. The mixture that combines aquatic notes and softened green citrus is like crisp rainfall splashing down on the trees and grass, this fusion works very well by accentuating a distinct freshness. It ends with soft warming amber and musky notes on the skin - I watched people trying the 'London Rain' collection and this was the fragrance that seemed to portray the theme best to most of the testers.

Puredistance I, by Puredistance

"Created by the renowned perfumer Annie Buzantian in New York. Annie initially made this Perfume for herself; she wanted to create her own, private masterpiece. When she by chance saw the initial concept and philosophy of PUREDISTANCE, she immediately knew the two concepts were meant for each other: understated elegance in its purest form."

Opening with gorgeous enlivening orange notes firstly sweet and then more piquant with juicy aquatic notes that adds to the revitalization. Differing levels of white floral notes including sensual, creamy magnolia and jasmine together with sweet but balanced yellow mimosa flow through the heart. A warm classy finish of amber, vetiver and white musk, a time-honoured combination makes this a perfect floral-oriental fragrance to go from day into evening.

Pretty Machine, by Kerosene

"Pretty Machine is like taking in a fresh breath of spring air. The air is crisp, and the trees are newly blossomed. This scent opens up with zesty, tangy citrus which rolls into clean floral blossoms. It's as if you're sitting underneath a Linden tree, newly blossomed in the heart of spring."

The nose behind this new unisex fragrance is John Pegg. Flaunting the joyousness of Spring with effervescent citrus notes of lemon, lime and bergamot highlighted by Spring floral tree blossoms. Sweet but not overbearing white florals and rose bring a balancing note, finishing with vetiver and musky notes that literally brings the fragrance down to earth. Modern and ambrosial.

Carbon, by nu_be

" I wanted to capture the mysterious beginning of life. A cocktail of cold spices, cardamom and icy ginger, melted with black peppercorn and pepper blossom to stimulate an irresistible force radiating from start to end. Adding elegance and freshness with precious iris, aromatic herbs and sensual resins. Combined with the creamy scent of freshly carved sandalwood, to create the luxurious foundation of the fragrance. For a deep dive in the roots of life. " Françoise Caron.

Earthy spices of the cardamom and cumin crushed with a pestle and left to dry in the mortar. Ginger and pepper are added lifting and revitalizing the spice notes. The not too sweet floral Iris comes through in waves with a fruity herbal hit but the scent relies on the fresh sandalwood, cedar and resinous note to balance this woody/floral fragrance.

Spring brings plenty of olfactory challenges particularly in an urban environment - the green of fresh new life breaks through the gray of a hard winter and defies an encroaching  metropolis.

To See A Flower, by CB I Hate Perfume

"A celebration of the majesty of the spring bloom, a flower that has to be appreciated slowly and with fervour.

Christopher Brosius created the scent in honour of a quote from prolific artist Georgia O'Keefe. It is a quote that struck a chord with the perfumer in him, for flowers are the tools of his trade, the strings to his bow:

This is like stepping into a florist - the green earthy notes of fresh just-clipped flowers put into water. The mixture of sweet and crisp floral notes set alongside green wet leaves and mosses - I found it difficult at first, as the notes were without sweetness and so felt too earthy but then it developed and you felt the fresh light flower stems and mixed floral bouquet come through very distinctly.

Spring

La Tulipe, by Byredo

"La Tulipe is built around the idea of the tulip - a flower reminiscent of morning moist gardens and by being one of the season's first flowers to open its bud; the tulip has become a symbol for the rebirth of spring. I have always loved tulips and decided to create a fragrance that spoke of the whole idea of the flower. To do this I wanted to capture its shy characteristic - and combine that with the expressive physicality it bears." Ben Gorham

This is more than I expected it to be. A piquant fruity/floral start grows into stronger green - earthy floral note of the tulip itself and exemplified by the vetiver base-layer. Light aromatic woods and even a musky note seem to bring a warmth to the fragrance which is welcome and makes this a very appealing spring fragrance.
